Zone 2 Police Officers Embark on 10.2km Fitness Walk Led by AIG Adegoke to Boost Operational Readiness

In a bid to enhance operational efficiency and promote overall wellness, police officers from Zone 2 Command, comprising Lagos and Ogun States, participated in a 10.2-kilometre fitness walk on Saturday, led by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), Adegoke Fayoade.

The fitness walk, which began at the Zone 2 Headquarters in Onikan, extended through Eko Atlantic City, Ahmadu Bello Way, Adeola Odeku, and back to the starting point, was organized as part of a regular exercise initiative to ensure officers remain physically fit, mentally alert, and emotionally balanced while carrying out their duties.

Speaking after the exercise, AIG Fayoade explained that the walk was in line with the directive of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, who emphasized the need for improved fitness among police personnel.

“The police job is highly demanding and requires physical and mental strength. This initiative is designed to keep us healthy and prepared for the round-the-clock nature of our work. Today, we covered 10.2km; previously, we did 8.5km, and we may increase to 15km next time,” AIG Fayoade said.

He further encouraged officers to prioritize regular exercise even during their leisure time, noting its benefits in lowering blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol levels.

Also speaking, the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Umma Tunni Ayuba, emphasized the importance of the walk in promoting mental fitness, camaraderie among officers, and engagement with the public.

“This exercise isn’t just about fitness; it fosters unity and builds bridges with the community. Some members of the public even joined us today. With good music, the experience was enjoyable, and we hardly noticed the distance,” she said.

The fitness walk was coordinated by the Zonal Sports Officer, SP Mattias, and the Lagos State Command Sports Officer, ASP Abayomi Sonaike. They were joined by Supol Alex from Zone 2.

ASP Sonaike expressed appreciation for AIG Fayoade’s commitment to the health and agility of officers, describing him as an "agile and visionary leader who understands the physical demands of policing."

The Zone 2 Command plans to make the fitness walk a regular activity to maintain the high physical and mental standards required for effective policing.
