The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr Mudashiru Obasa, has reaffirmed the state’s commitment to deepening international cooperation, particularly with the People’s Republic of China.

Obasa made this known on Friday while receiving a high-powered delegation from the Standing Committee of the Zhejiang Provincial People’s Congress at the Assembly Complex in Alausa, Ikeja.

News Men reports that the delegation was led by Wu Jing, Vice Chairman of the standing committee of Zhejiang Province.

Welcoming the delegation, Obasa described the visit as a significant milestone in advancing diplomatic and developmental relations between Lagos State and Zhejiang Province.

He highlighted Lagos state’s strategic position as the fifth-largest economy in Africa with a population exceeding 20 million.

According to him, it offers vast opportunities in infrastructure development, commerce, technology, and cultural exchange.

“The Lagos State House of Assembly remains committed to fostering partnerships that will enhance legislative capacity and drive sustainable development,” Obasa said.

“We believe this visit will open new avenues for mutual benefit between Zhejiang Province and Lagos State.”

In his remarks, Wu Jing expressed appreciation for the warm hospitality, stating that the visit was aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and fostering greater cooperation and understanding between both regions.

“This visit will pave the way for long-term friendship and collaboration between Zhejiang and Lagos,” Jing added.

Present at the meeting were principal officers of the House, including the Clerk of the House, Mr Olalekan Onafeko, and the Chief of Staff to the Speaker, Dr Omoyele Quadri.

The Chinese delegation included Yan Yuqing, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Lagos, and Chen Genfang, Chair of the Education, Science, Culture and Public Health Committee.

Others were, Zhang Genming, Chair of the Social Construction Committee; Chen Jiangfeng, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Foreign Affairs; and other senior officials.

Following the meeting and a photo session, the delegation was given a guided tour of the assembly complex to observe the legislative operations and infrastructure.
