A faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, operating under the banner of the APC Mandate Group, has called on the Chairman of the Ondo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Rt. Hon. Victor Olabimtan, to step down from his official post. 

The group alleged that Olabimtan, who is reportedly eyeing the position of state party chairman, is leveraging public resources to promote his political ambition.

In a statement issued Thursday and signed by the group’s secretary, Sogbe Oluwadamilola, the APC Mandate Group condemned what it described as Olabimtan’s attempt to convene an APC stakeholders meeting. 

According to them, such an act—coming from a declared aspirant—goes against the principles of fairness, neutrality, and respect for fellow contenders.

The group warned that any meeting coordinated by an aspirant lacks impartiality and could be seen as an attempt to project undue influence or secure an unfair endorsement. 

They criticized the move as an abuse of office that undermines internal party democracy.

Expressing further concern, the group noted that Olabimtan's political activities appear to be affecting his official duties at SUBEB. 

They described this as a violation of good governance principles and an inappropriate use of public office.

They, therefore, called on Olabimtan to relinquish his current role if he wishes to continue his campaign for the party chairmanship. 

The group also appealed to Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa and senior APC leaders in the Akoko region to intervene, warning that failure to act could damage the credibility of the upcoming party congresses.

According to the group, any genuine APC stakeholders’ meeting in the Akoko area should be led by neutral elder statesmen such as Baba Seinde Arogbofa, Baba Ali Olanusi, Baba Demola Ijabiyi, Baba Erastus Akeju, Chief Bailey Arohunmolase, Baba Elemeje, and Captain Vincent Oyepata (rtd.).

The statement ended with a strong call for a fair and inclusive process, emphasizing that no aspirant should be allowed to manipulate the system to their advantage.
